Mebetoys Model #A-64, Porsche 912 Ski

The Porsche 912, produced between 1965 and 1969, was a lower cost alternative to the six cylinder Porsche 911 and shared the same body and chassis as the 911 but used a four-cylinder engine from the Porsche 356. This Mebetoys model first appeard in the 1973 Mattel Italian Dealer Catalog and the 1973 Mebetoys catalog. The Mebetoys Porsche 912 Ski used the Mebetoys Porsche 912, Model #A-12, as its "base model" and is also refered to as the weekend or invernale (winter). Four holes were driled into the top of the A-12 casting to accomodate the roof rack that holds the skis and the sled. Mattel S.p.A. (Mebetoys) packaged this model under the Gran Toros name for the European market after the Hot Wheels Gran Toros series (Series Sputafuoco) was discontinued.
